Monday Muse - But Different.

Typically Mondays I post a color palette to inspire you. Well today, I hope to inspire you in a different way.

2 weeks ago I got really mad. So mad I took a shower to cool down mad. I had gotten the meet the teacher letter and my third grader's school list was completely different than the district supplied list. 3 days before school starts I have to try and find her different supplies.

In the shower, I was fuming. Here I am a parent that plans. I budget for our school supplies. I buy them early so the kids can have a nice selection. Now everything is gone for the most part and I have to head out and try to find new stuff. What if I didn't have the money, 3 days before school started? What if I was still a teacher and I was having to shell out tons of money for my own class because I couldn't ask parents to supply anything we were preschool and 90% daycare voucher. Then I would be shelling out money for my class and my kids and being paid ...well frankly shit.

Then it hit me. I can't really do anything about the salary made as teachers, or the fact that education is far from respected. However, I can help teachers save in the pocketbook. So I set out and decided I was making my whole store $1 for the rest of the August.

I made cute social media posts about it, marked everything down and said ... it's 15 days or so, it's the least I can do to help out.

The business mind took over and said, set a goal for yourself and aim to hit it. Marketing is my weak point and frankly so is goal setting. I put it out there that I would like to pay off my Discover Card. Maybe it was a stretch thinking I would pretty much need to take all the activity I was having on my store and repeat that every day the rest of the month to get there.

Looking at things now that the month is over. I look at numbers and honestly, I missed the mark, by like $500. I can pay off a credit card in full, but not the one I had set out to pay off.

Usually, I would look at that and say... look once again I set a goal and missed it. My marketing hasn't worked .. this that or whatever. Today, I am not there. Today, I am looking at where I have come in just this past 2 weeks.

*Four times where I was before I put my store on sale.
*70+ new followers
*Daily new products (mostly things that I just needed to finish and kept putting off. Plus the desire to create and post them.)
*Dedicated time every day to marketing and not just relying on the passive search engine game.
*A stern close down the business time.
*A solid focus on what my business is going to be moving forward.
*Trimmed the fat to solidify my focus. (There is a post coming about that soon)

Honesty, yes, I am actually looking for a more stable full-time income because our financial goals need it. I know that if I am supposed to just stay working TpT, the sales from this month will need to increase by 7 times. So while the hunt is on. I am going to just keep plugging. August was a good month. It was a month that was good for the soul even though I missed my mark.

Moving forward and looking ahead. I hit some pretty major milestones for an online business in August.

*500+ Followers on Instagram
*500+ Followers on my Teachers Pay Teachers store
*500+ Reviews of products
*500+ Unit Sales in one month

To celebrate this I am leaving my store on sale. Everything in my store, new, old, bundle or single resource is just $1.

My hope is that this inspires you to get mad. Find your passion. Take action.

Now, this does all take place on the Teachers Pay Teachers website. If you do not have a Teachers Pay Teachers account I ask why not? You know it is free. Soon there will be an episode or a post about why everyone should have an account on Teachers Pay Teachers.

But today, we talk about feedback.

Monday Muse Edition 8

This Monday starts a new chapter in the Hickman house.

Both of my babies are in school full day. This will not come to a surprise, but I write these posts in advance from time to time. I am editing now on the "First Day Eve." We had a good day today, so I am not all ... OMG I am so glad school starts tomorrow! I am actually pretty nervous for my youngest. He has NEVER been a whole day without Mommy close by, EVER. My oldest is the most nervous she has been in a long time about the start of school. I can honestly say I am looking forward to this new chapter. I can honestly say this too. It is going to feel weird walking back from the bus stop without a child.

Since this is a new chapter I figured our muse this week would be a beautiful sunrise.
